JAIPUR: Brace for scheduled power cuts across the state following a sharp rise in demand triggered by frequent bouts of heat waves and normalisation of economic activities after the pandemic.
The discoms are likely to announce the power cut roster soon.
Principal secretary (energy) and chairman of discoms Bhaskar A Sawant on Saturday said the power demand in April had shot up to 2,800 lakh units per day from 2,131 lakh units in the same period last year. Similarly, the peak demand rose to 13,700MW per day from 11,570MW in April 2021. He said even at higher prices, power is not available at energy exchanges due to nationwide coal crisis. Due to coal shortage, power generation units are not able to function to their full capacity.
Thermal power stations in Rajasthan have a power generation capacity of 10,110 MW out of which only around 6,600 MW is being currently generated daily.tnn
