Rajasthan: BJP leader held in connection with Dausa doctor's suicide

JAIPUR: The special investigation team (SIT) of Dausa police on Sunday arrested a local BJP leader in connection with the suicide case of gynaecologist Dr Archana Sharma.

Dausa SP, Raj Kumar Gupta said that the police have arrested one Harikesh Matlana in the suicide case. “We have arrested him (Matlana) after corroborating his role in the case,” Gupta said, adding that the accused was found to be involved in the extortion.

While the Dausa police did not mention the accused’s political affiliations, Matlana’s social media profile shows him as a BJP member.

Dr Sharma had hanged herself last month in her house in Dausa’s Lalsot after the local police booked her in the murder case following the death of a patient.

Gupta said that a total of the seven accused have been arrested so far in the case. The main accused, Shiv Shankar alias Balya Joshi remains on the run.

The Dausa police said that efforts are underway to track down Joshi, including a notice issued recently against him.

The Dausa police had constituted an SIT that included four SHOs and is led by an ASP.

Sharma’s husband Dr Suneet Upadhyay in his FIR to Lalsot police had accused Joshi of exerting pressure on Dr Sharma, accusing him of organising protests with the patient’s body outside their hospital to force the local administration to file a case of murder against Sharma.
