Rain lashes Delhi-NCR, more showers predicted

NEW DELHI: Parts of Delhi and the National Capital Region received moderate to heavy rain early on Friday morning.

The downpour brought much needed respite from the scorching heat as the minimum temperature fell five notches to 22.8 degree Celsius, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

The weather office said the city received 7 mm of rainfall in the last 24 hours ending 8.30am on Friday. The maximum temperature during the day is expected to settle at 37 degree Celsius.

The rain also resulted in waterlogging at several places. According to weather analysts, the respite from heatwaves will continue for at least five more days, along with moderate to light rain and strong winds.

Earlier today, Regional Weather Forecasting Centre (RWFC) New Delhi predicted thunderstorms with moderate intensity rain over and adjoining areas of Delhi and NCR.

"Thunderstorm with light to moderate intensity rain would occur over and adjoining areas of Delhi-NCR (Ghaziabad, Chhapraula, Dadri, Greater Noida, Ballabhgarh) Nazibabad, Kandhla, Bijnaur, Chandpur, Kithor, Amroha, Moradabad, Garhmukteshwar, Pilakhua,.... during next two hours," RWFC tweeted.
