Rain damages houses in Dakshina Kannada

MANGALURU: Though rain receded in Dakshina Kannada, one house was severely damaged, and seven others were partially damaged in the district, in the past 24 hours.

A total 113 electricity poles and two transformers were damaged due to rain so far. The water level in the Netravati River was at 6.2m in Bantwal and 27.8 m in Uppinangady.

The district had received an average of 71 mm rainfall. Among taluks, Belthangady received 84.5 mm, Bantwal-52.7mm, Mangaluru-40.4 mm, Puttur-65.3 mm, Sullia-78.9 mm, Moodbidri-99.2 mm and Kadaba- 68.4 mm. The district has received a total of 2448 mm rainfall, as on date, from January 1.

Arecanut trees uprooted

Following gales, several arecanut trees were uprooted at Gandibagilu in Koila in Uppinangady.

Electricity wires were damaged due to trees falling. Udupi district received an average of 96.1 mm rainfall.

In Udupi district

Udupi recorded 66.3mm of rain, Kaup-116.8mm, Kundapura-70.8mm, Byndoor-109.2mm, Karkala-119.7mm and Hebri-116.8mm.

A total 39 houses were damaged, causing a loss to the tune of Rs 10.4 lakh in the district.
