Train operators have revealed details of altered services during Wednesday's rail strike - including the times of the last trains from Manchester to London and back.
Only around a fifth of normal services will run, and half of all lines will be closed. Trains will only operate between 7.30am and 6.30pm on Wednesday, and will start later than normal on Thursday.
Avanti West Coast, which runs trains from Manchester Piccadilly to London Euston, said a limited service of around a quarter of the normal timetable will operate, with one train per hour in both directions between London Euston and each of Manchester, Liverpool, Birmingham and Preston.
According to Network Rail, the last train from London to Manchester is due to depart Euston at 3.40pm. The last train from Manchester Piccadilly to London Euston should be at 3.27pm.
Members of the Rail, Maritime and Transport union workers employed by Network Rail and 14 rail operators are taking part in a one-day stoppage on July 27, while TSSA members at Avanti West Coast will also be on strike.
Avanti West Coast reported a reduced timetable operating to Glasgow and said several areas would not be served, such as Blackpool, Edinburgh, North Wales and Shrewsbury.
CrossCountry reported a 'very limited service' between Birmingham and Edinburgh via Leeds, York and Newcastle; Leicester; Manchester and Southampton.
Northern, which operates trains across Greater Manchester, urged passengers 'not to travel' as only a small number of routes will have trains. Routes that will be open include Liverpool to Alderley Edge; York to Leeds; and Darlington to Saltburn.
Northern said: "Strike action by RMT members will significantly affect services on 27 July 2022 with most lines closed with no train services or alternatives. We advise customers not to travel on Wednesday 27 July.
"There are a small number of routes running with a very limited service, you should only travel if necessary on these routes. If you do travel, expect severe disruption and plan ahead/check your entire journey.
"We also advise customers to check before they travel on Thursday 28 July as some services may have been affected by the previous day's strike action. Tickets dated for 27 July can be used between 26 July and 2 August.
TransPennine Express, meanwhile, said there would only be a very limited service, with just these routes open: Manchester Airport to Preston; Manchester Piccadilly to York; Newcastle to Edinburgh and Cleethorpes to Sheffield.
The operator said: "TransPennine Express (TPE) is asking customers to plan carefully ahead of fresh strike action by RMT.
"It will cause significant disruption to rail services, as well as other train companies’ services and Network Rail. We are now working with industry colleagues, who are also affected by the industrial action, to determine what level of service we will be able to provide.
"A reduced timetable is expected to be in place on the affected date and customers are advised to seek alternative transport and only plan essential travel. Disruption is also expected on days either side of the strike date."
