A person has tragically died near a railway line in Wishaw.
The alarm was raised shortly before 8am this morning (November 29), when officers were alerted to a casualty on the tracks at Wishaw train station.
Emergency services, including Police Scotland and Scottish Ambulance Service, scrambled to the scene, but sadly the individual was pronounced dead upon arrival.
Their age and gender, as well as circumstances surrounding their passing, are not yet known. An investigation has now been launched to piece together exactly what happened.
A British Transport Police spokesman told Lanarkshire Live : "Officers were called to the line near Wishaw railway station at 7.50am this morning following reports of a casualty on the tracks.
"Paramedics also attended and sadly a person has been pronounced dead at the scene. Officers are on scene working to establish the circumstances surrounding their death."
The incident has sparked delays and cancellations to train journeys between Motherwell and Lanark today, but ScotRail has informed commuters they can use tickets on replacement buses.
A spokesman for the firm told us : "Services between Motherwell and Lanark are currently subject to delays, alterations and cancellations due to the emergency services dealing with an incident in the Wishaw area.
"ScotRail advises that journeys may be cancelled or delayed, and travellers can use their rail tickets on replacement buses.
"We have ticket acceptance in place with JMB Travel; bus 41 from Motherwell - Lanark."
