Rail chief issues update as probe launched after two UK train derailments in consecutive days

  • Investigations will be launched after the UK saw two train derailments in two days.
  • Network Rail executive Martin Frobisher said probe “will look at all possible causes and factors”, adding the hot weather had “presented exceptional challenges to the railway”.
  • It comes after a Greater Anglia train derailed near Wickford in Essex on Friday.
  • The incident was less than 24 hours after another train derailed in East Sussex between Lewes and Haywards Heath.
  • Two people were left with serious injuries and a further 18 people were taken to hospital.
