Davante Adams is coming off arguably the best season of his career. He went over 1,500 yards in back-to-back seasons and scored double-digit touchdowns for the sixth time. It’s not hard to make the case that he’s the best receiver in the NFL.
One of the reasons why he’s been able to be so productive over the last nine years is that he is an exceptional route runner. He can run every route against any type of coverage. But there is one type of coverage that Adams has routinely dominated over his career; zone coverage.
In a recent article by Pro Football Focus, they took a look at which receivers were the most productive against zone coverage during the 2022 season. That list included Adams, who dominated every type of coverage last year. Here is a snippet of what the site had to say about the All-Pro receiver for Las Vegas:
In his first season as a Raider, he posted another elite receiving grade — a 90.5 overall, which makes it three consecutive seasons with a 90.0-plus receiving grade.
He got it done more against zone coverage, however, as 107 of his targets came against that coverage with just 33 targets coming against man coverage. This led to 946 of his 1,516 yards coming against zone, as well as being tied first with Tyreek Hill and CeeDee Lamb with five touchdowns.
At this stage of his career, there is nothing that Adams can’t do. He’s seen every type of coverage and now he’s been able to produce with several different quarterbacks. Now, he’ll have to prove that he can produce again with a new starting quarterback installed in Las Vegas.
