Raheem Sterling rejoins England training on eve of World Cup quarter-final with France

Raheem Sterling joined a fully-fit England squad in training a day before their World Cup quarter-final with France.

Gareth Southgate is set to be able to select from a full complement of players, aside from Ben White who left the camp due to personal reasons, for Saturday’s match.

Sterling, who only flew back to Qatar last night from a family visit after his home in London was burgled, underwent a lighter session than his teammates, leaving his participation in doubt despite training.

Southgate has stated that the long-haul flights and missed sessions this week have left Sterling short of fitness.

He told ITV: “He has missed a lot of training and had two long flights. That is not good preparation for a game of this standard, but let’s see how he is.”

Declan Rice returned after missing a session due to illness and Callum Wilson is back after a minor strain caused by fatigue led to him missing recent workouts.

John Stones had been rumoured to be struggling with a hamstring complaint but trained on Friday afternoon, with Southgate to give further updates in his press conference later today.

The group trained in mild conditions as the Qatar heat continues to relent in the latter stages of the World Cup this winter.

The world’s cameras captured the open training session as England undertook their warm-ups and a series of drills.

The Three Lions will kick-off their second match in the World Cup knockout rounds at Al Bayt Stadium at 7pm on Saturday night.
