Scott Mills will be replaced by Dean McCullough and Vicky Hawkesworth when the veteran broadcaster leaves Radio 1 after 24 years.
The BBC has announced the pair will replace Mills and Chris Stark on air from Mondays to Thursdays on the 1-3.30pm slot.
They will broadcast from the corporation’s studio in Salford.
Also, Katie Thistleton will host a show on Fridays and Saturdays from 10.30am-1pm while Nat O’Leary will join to host a new show - Radio 1 00s - on Sundays from 11am-1pm.
The changes are going to be set in motion in September when Mills leaves the station to take over from Steve Wright on BBC Radio 2.
Stark, a fixture on Mills’s show since 2012, is leaving the BBC.
McCullough said: "It’s bittersweet because like so many millions of people I am a huge fan of Scott and Chris. They are hands down the best at doing the radio, ever."
The news was greeted by a mixed reaction on Twitter.
Mark Craggs wrote: “Congratulations to Dean and Vicky, looking forward to hearing the new show. Enjoy Dean’s weekend show, big shoes to fill but I’m sure these two will put on a great show.”
Leighton James said: “Nothing against Dean but I definitely think Matt Edmondson and Mollie King would have been a better fit for the weekday afternoon show. Got this one wrong.”
Another commenter added: “What are you doing, Radio 1? Will miss Scott and Chris... Legends.”
