Rachel Zoe’s Marble Dome Lamp At TJ Maxx Is The Museum-Worthy Find That Looks Even Better Switched Off

Rachel Zoe.

In the years that I've written about design, I've observed a shift in how we think about lighting. A lamp is no longer expected to simply illuminate a room.

Increasingly, lighting trends favor fixtures that serve as decorative objects in their own right, bringing shape, material, and presence to a space even when they are switched off.

The Rachel Zoe solid dome table lamp, currently available at TJ Maxx, is my current favorite example. In addition to being a beautiful way to subtly decorate with marble, this lamp features a streamlined metal shade that's so modern yet still translates well to most homes. However, not an overestimation to say it belongs in a high-end gallery or design museum.

The combination of stone and metal gives this lamp enough visual weight to sit comfortably alongside ceramics or art books, if we want to keep up that theme. At under $80, it looks so much more expensive than it really is.

Editor's Choice

I can’t believe this lamp is hiding at TJ Maxx. The marble base gives it real presence, while the simple dome shade keeps the overall look clean. I'd be suprised if it's still in stock next week, so shop quickly.

As experts emphasize, for many years, table lamps were chosen largely for their function. They existed because a room needed another source of light, usually with a fabric shade designed to blend in. Now, the fixture itself is becoming part of the room's visual language.

'Lighting should always look as good on as it does off,' says Georgia Metcalfe, founder and creative director of French Bedroom.

For Georgia, sculptural lighting has a role beyond simply providing illumination. 'Lighting designs with beautiful silhouettes can never be overlooked; sculptural table lamps make beautiful ornaments within a room, offering both a practical and aesthetically pleasing purpose,' she says.

This dual purpose is part of the Rachel Zoe light appeal. The marble base can introduce texture, while a curved metal shade can bring a cleaner, more architectural line. The result is lighting that works throughout the day, not just after dark. With this in mind, I've curated some more top picks that look just as good in the daylight.
