Rachel Riley left red-faced as she spells out cheeky word on Countdown

Rachel Riley struggled to contain her giggles during Friday's instalment of Countdown after being forced to spell out an X-rated word on the show.

Not for the first time in recent weeks the 36-year-old numbers expert was left red-faced after a contestant on the Channel 4 programme rearranged the vowels and consonants on the board to something rude.

After Rachel dished out B, E, L, N, O, I, K, N and G to the board, contestant Joe used his 30 seconds of time to create the seven-letter word 'Bonking'.

Taken aback, guest host Reverend Richard Coles then innocently questioned what the word meant.

Contestant Joe picked out B, E, L, N, O, I, K, N and G in order to create the X-rated word (Channel 4)

Lexicographer Susie Dent soon interjected, meanwhile, insisting it was a recognised word.

"It's in the dictionary, there are lots of different meanings though," she explained.

"You can bonk someone on the head, or if you're a cyclist and you hit the point of exhaustion - which I've done often - you bonk as well."

Joe then asked Rachel to spell out 'Bonking' on the board (Channel 4)

As always, Rachel oozed class and elegance in a multi-coloured stripy dress, and she showed her professionalism by keeping calm and carrying on with the show as normal - despite the word in question remaining on the board for an extended amount of time.

Just last month Rachel had to hold back the laughter as she stood by the board and noticed the list of vowels and consonants created the words 'jiz' and 'louder'.

She couldn't help but smirk as the cheeky phrase appeared on the board, and while she chose to ignore the naughty coincidence, her face said it all.
