Rabid Baby Goats Visited Ten Events Across Seven North Carolina Counties Before Anyone Knew They Were Infected

North Carolina health officials have released the full list of places where children and older adults may have touched baby goats that were carrying rabies. The list covers ten events across seven counties and one full month.

The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services said the State Laboratory of Public Health confirmed rabies virus in three baby goats from Farm Adventures, a mobile petting zoo based in Harmony in Iredell County. A fourth goat was not tested but is also assumed to have been infected. The state and the North Carolina Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services were first notified of a possible exposure on Aug. 27, and the laboratory results came back the next day. Officials believe a skunk entered the pen where the goats were kept in late July. The business said on social media that all four goats were euthanized and that its remaining animals are being monitored under guidance from health officials.
