Quote of the day by Robert Frost: Robert Frost remains one of the most recognizable names in American poetry. Born on March 26, 1874, in San Francisco, Frost later moved to Massachusetts after his father died when he was 11. His early experiences, his later years in rural New England, and his struggles to establish himself as a writer all shaped the poetry that eventually made him famous. What made Frost stand out was his ability to make complicated ideas feel familiar. He often wrote about woods, farms, stone walls, roads and ordinary people, but beneath those simple images were questions about choice, isolation, relationships, mortality and human nature. The Poetry Foundation describes him as both a traditionalist and an innovator who combined formal poetry with the plainspoken language of New England.
Frost did not become a literary star overnight. He worked as a teacher, editor and farmer while continuing to write. His first published poem, 'My Butterfly', appeared in 1894. After years of struggling to gain attention in the United States, Frost moved with his family to England in 1912. There, he published 'A Boy’s Will' in 1913 and 'North of Boston' in 1914. He returned to the United States in 1915 with an established literary reputation. His experience with rural life became a defining part of his public image. Yet Frost’s poetry was rarely as simple as its settings suggested. Poems such as 'Mending Wall', 'The Road Not Taken' and 'Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening' invite readers to look beyond the surface and consider difficult choices and contradictions.
