Quote of the Day by Jules Verne: 'Science is made up of mistakes, but...'- Timeless lesson on why every mistake brings you closer to the truth by the French novelist known for bestselling adventure novel 'Journey to the Center of the Earth'

Quote of the Day by Jules Verne: Mistakes often feel like failures, but some of history's greatest thinkers believed they were essential to success. Few captured this idea better than Jules Verne, the visionary French author whose imagination inspired generations of scientists, inventors, and explorers. His famous quote reminds us that every error has value if we're willing to learn from it.

Quote of the Day

"Science, my lad, is made up of mistakes, but they are mistakes which it is useful to make, because they lead little by little to the truth."

— Jules Verne

Meaning of the Quote

Jules Verne believed that progress is built through trial and error. Every scientific breakthrough, invention, and discovery comes after countless failed attempts. Mistakes are not obstacles to knowledge. They are stepping stones toward understanding.

The quote teaches that we should never fear making mistakes. Instead, we should view them as valuable lessons that help us improve. Whether in science, education, business, or everyday life, every setback carries information that brings us closer to success.

It is a reminder that perfection is not the starting point of achievement. Learning is.

Who Was Jules Verne?

Born on February 8, 1828, in Nantes, France, Jules Verne is widely regarded as one of the founding fathers of modern science fiction. Although his father wanted him to become a lawyer, Verne was drawn to literature and theatre. While studying law in Paris, he devoted his free time to writing plays, stories, and scientific essays. His breakthrough came in 1862, when publisher Pierre-Jules Hetzel agreed to publish Five Weeks in a Balloon, the first novel in Verne's celebrated Voyages extraordinaires (Extraordinary Journeys) series, as per Britannica.

The book became an international bestseller and allowed Verne to leave his career as a stockbroker and become a full-time writer.

Over the following decades, he produced some of the most influential adventure novels ever written, including Journey to the Centre of the Earth, Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea, Around the World in Eighty Days, From the Earth to the Moon, and The Mysterious Island.

Many of his fictional ideas remarkably anticipated real-world technologies, including submarines, lunar travel, helicopters, and advanced exploration vehicles.
