George Michael was born as Giorgios Panayiotou on June 25, 1963, in London, England. He grew up in a family with English and Greek-Cypriot heritage. His mother Lesley Panayiotou was a dancer. His father Kyriacos Panayiotou worked as a restaurateur after moving from Cyprus in the 1950s.

Career with Wham!

In 1981, George Michael and Andrew Ridgeley formed Wham!. The band signed a record deal with Innervision. Their first hit song was “Young Guns (Go for It!)” in 1982. The debut album Fantastic reached number one in Britain.
