Edinburgh cyclist rushed to hospital after rush hour crash on busy roundabout

An Edinburgh cyclist has been rushed to hospital after a crash on a busy roundabout which caused on long queues on all approaches early this morning.

The male cyclist and a vehicle collided on Calder Road at the Longstone roundabout and taken to the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary shortly after 7am on Wednesday morning.

Police Scotland attended the scene and are now carrying out enquiries into the road traffic collision.

Lothian Buses diverted all services that pass through the busy West Edinburgh road and motorists were advised to avoid the area if possible.

The road has now reopened with normal services resuming.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 7am on Wednesday, 9 February, 2022, police were called to a road crash involving a car and a cyclist on Calder Road at the Longstone Roundabout, Edinburgh.

"The male cyclist has been taken by ambulance to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh.

"No details on injury, if any. Enquiries are continuing. Road is open."
