Queues at 'Liverpool's cheapest' petrol station as fuel prices reach record highs

Huge queues formed outside a Liverpool petrol station today as drivers tried to fill their tanks before fuel prices skyrocket.

Drivers were spotted waiting in a long queue at Costco petrol station in Liverpool this afternoon, February 26.

Meanwhile, a Tesco petrol station in Prescot had run out of all unleaded petrol and diesel today, with only super unleaded fuel available.

Signs were put up outside the petrol station warning drivers of the situation and on the petrol pumps.

Priced at 139.7 for unleaded petrol, Costco appears to be the cheapest place in the city region to get petrol, according to petrolprices.co.uk.

Average fuel prices at UK forecourts are already at record highs, and the situation is expected to worsen as retailers pass on further rises in wholesale costs.

The price of fuel remains an ongoing issue, but motorists could face more misery in the coming weeks and months.

Concerns have been raised previously that Russia's invasion of Ukraine will push petrol pump prices up to a staggering £1.50 "very soon".

RAC fuel spokesman Simon Williams said: "The question then becomes where will this stop and how much can drivers take, just as many are using their cars more and returning to workplaces.

"If the oil price was to increase to 110 US dollars, there's a very real danger the average price of petrol would hit £1.55 a litre.

"This would cause untold financial difficulties for many people who depend on their cars for getting to work and running their lives as it would skyrocket the cost of a full tank to £85."

Reports were seen across social media that motorists were queuing at forecourts in areas across Merseyside over the weekend, with some even running out of petrol.

However, whether this is connected is not confirmed.

Whilst huge queues were seen at Costco on Waterloo Street, no queues were seen elsewhere on Saturday afternoon.

  3. Sainsburys Rice Lane priced at 143.9p
