A Queensland NRL player has been charged with rape after an alleged off-field incident at a Brisbane nightclub during the Christmas break.
Court documents allege the man, aged in his 20s, sexually assaulted the woman at a venue in Fortitude Valley on December 10.
He was charged more than a month later with one count of rape.
On Wednesday, the case was briefly mentioned for the first time in the Brisbane Magistrates Court.
The player did not attend court and his defence lawyer asked for his appearance to be excused.
The court was told he was on bail and in regular contact with their firm.
His matter was adjourned and will return to court next month.
The NRL's integrity unit is investigating the player who is currently stood down from club activities.
