Queen Elizabeth II's official cause of death was old age, her death certificate has confirmed. The document, signed by the Princess Royal, was published by National Records of Scotland on Thursday, September 29.

The late monarch died at Balmoral Castle in Ballater at 3.10pm on September 8, the document states. It goes on to list the cause of death as old age.

The Queen was aged 96 when she died and her funeral on Monday, September 19, was witnessed by tens of millions of mourners across the world. Following her death earlier this month, her son, Charles, was named King Charles III. The date of his coronation has yet to be confirmed.
