Queen Camilla shows support for girls and Taylor Swift hits the red carpet: this week’s good news

We’ve made it to the end of the week, and over the last seven days, the world has been witness to devastating events from across the globe.

In hopes of bringing a bit of joy to a heavy week, the Standard have rounded up some positive and uplifting stories from the last week. Take a look at what we found.

Queen Camilla calls for opportunities for girls “throughout the world”

At the launch of a new festival on International Day of the Girl, the Queen spoke on the importance of “nurturing opportunities throughout the world”.

Camilla is the president of the WOW Foundation, who announced the WOW Girls Festival where a custom-built bus will tour the UK for girls to take part in a creative exploration of gender equity.

Speaking on Wednesday, the Queen said: “As the proud President of WOW, I know that girls have always been at the heart of everything that you do. I am sure that this festival will equip young people across the United Kingdom with resilience, confidence and self-belief – and that you will have lots of fun along the way!”

The beavers are back in town

For the first time in 400 years, beavers have been seen on an urban site in London — and they’re looking dam cute.

A family of five beavers was released by Mayor Sadiq Khan in the capital on Wednesday in a pioneering project to encourage the “rewilding” of urban areas.

The move is to inspire Londoners to learn more about nature, as well as reduce flood risk in the surrounding area and boost the city’s wildlife population.

Tay and Bey hit the red carpet

Both Swifties and the BeyHive alike were ecstatic this week to see two music icons take to the red carpet for the world premiere of Taylor Swift’s new concert movie, The Eras Tour.

Beyoncé’s appearance comes after she announced her own concert movie following the immense success of the Renaissance World Tour.

Swift arrived in a beautiful blue Oscar de la Renta gown at the event at The Grove shopping mall in Los Angeles, where other stars including Julia Garner and Adam Sandler made an appearance.

London salutes 20 years of big Frieze

The Frieze art fair opened its doors to the public for its first full day today, with organisers hailing 2023’s edition as “the most international to date”.

The event will last five days to celebrate its 20th anniversary, with famous faces already having been spotted, including Florence Pugh, Rami Malek, Sienna Miller and Andrew Garfield – among many others!

Millions of pounds are expected to be generated for London’s economy, both in sales and in hotels, cafés, bars and restaurants that will reap the benefits of the international art world making its way to the capital.
