Quarter of Irish children 'upset by online content'

Almost one in four children have been upset by content they have found online, research has revealed.

Internet safety group CyberSafeKids released their annual report for 2021-2022, which examined how children in Ireland interact with the web. The report also found that a third of children are playing computer games intended for a mature audience, making them more likely to come across violent or harmful content.

CyberSafeKids is urging parents to play an active role in their children’s Internet usage and be mindful of the content they consume. However, chairperson Avril Ronan Naughton acknowledged the difficulties that parents face in trying to monitor their children’s online activity.
