Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers is not present for the start of organized team activities and isn’t expected in Green Bay at all this week, according to coach Matt LaFleur.
“He’s not here,” LaFleur said Tuesday. “I wouldn’t anticipate seeing him, at least this week.”
LaFleur reiterated this part of the program is all “voluntary” and Rodgers’ participation status during OTAs is “all on him.” He also said he spoke with Rodgers on Monday night to catch him up with everything going on to start the Packers’ offseason workout program.
“I talked with him last night for a while, which was great, just to update him on where we are, and just go through some tweaks to what we’re doing. He’s in great spirits. It was a great conversation.”
Rodgers, who had his workout bonus dropped to just $50,000 in his new contract, is expected to participate during the mandatory minicamp next month. LaFleur wouldn’t rule out Rodgers returning for OTAs next week.
No one in Green Bay is especially worried about his absence. Rodgers, now 38, is a four-time MVP who is entering his fourth season in LaFleur’s offense.
“Aaron doesn’t need reps this time of year,” quarterbacks coach Tom Clements said earlier this month. “Obviously, it’d be nice to have him here. But he’s seen these things a thousand times. He’ll be ready to go when training camp starts.”
The Packers have another OTA day on Wednesday and will regroup again for OTAs next week. Minicamp runs June 7-9.
