Renee Parsons, PXG’s president and executive creative director, is the woman behind the American brand’s style movement in golf, creating fashion-forward pieces that transcend seamlessly into everyday lifestyle.
LPGA player Lydia Ko wears PXG and she always looks smart, often wearing the brand’s classic monotone colorway - black, white, and gray. This boat neck sweater in black/white falls into that category and as PXG is a new apparel brand to me, I was keen to see how it shaped up (literally).
As soon as you pick up this sweater, you can immediately feel the luxurious smooth and soft texture of the fabric, which is a stretchy wool-knit blend. It’s true to size and while the design is fairly simple with just the contrasting color ribbing on the waistband and sleeves, it’s very striking.
The boat-neck is a design that is uncommon in the current women’s golf apparel collections, as zipped mid layers seem to be very popular at the moment, so this is a welcome change and I found it very flattering. It has ergonomic seams for comfort and I really like the understated ribbing that runs along each side and under each arm.
To be honest, it looked too nice to wear for golf, so Renee Parsons has achieved what she intended, a versatile sweater that you can wear just as easily off the course as on it. I’m not a big fan of logos plastered on clothing, but somehow the small PXG logo on the top right shoulder, bottom left cuff and on the back of the neck, don’t offend me.
This is a fitted sweater, but when playing golf, the stretch allowed me to swing freely. I didn’t play as well as Lydia Ko, but teamed with a pair of black ladies pants, I believe I looked smart and I felt comfortable!
