Paolo Zampolli, the longtime friend credited with first introducing Donald Trump to his future wife Melania, lost his State Department post on 15 October, and within days he was telling an Italian newspaper that his former colleagues were not simply moving on.
People were not leaving the administration, he said in a translated interview with La Repubblica, they were fleeing. The government was changing, he added, and many were heading out.
