Pupils allowed to leave school early after travellers set up camp at the entrance

Pupils at a school in Newport were allowed to leave early after travellers set up camp at the entrance. The travellers and caravans arrived directly outside Llanwern High School at Hartridge Farm Road in Newport on Tuesday and were still there on Wednesday morning.

Newport city council says it is liaising with Gwent Police regarding a course of action. The school is also working with the council.

In a statement shared on the school’s social media a spokesperson for the school said pupils were directed off the site early via a rear exit after travellers started a small fire.
