PATIALA: Former Punjab Congress president Navjot Singh Sidhu rode a tusker with “elephantine rise in prices” sign on Thursday to protest against inflation. He claimed that more than 90% of the country could not afford new prices, and only 3% was rich enough to be immune.
Speaking from atop the elephant, Sidhu said the price rise had forced the manufacturers to downgrade their products. Claiming that the country had 7.7% retail inflation, while the wholesale price index (WPI) had increased 15%, he said: “This means a 50% rise in the cost of healthcare, transport, housing, and construction.”
