The Sangrur Lok Sabha seat was vacated by Punjab chief minister Bhagwant Mann after he won the state assembly elections on March 10 from Dhuri assembly segment.

Gazette notification for the by-polls will be issued on May 30 and the last date for filing of nominations by contestants is June 6. Scrutiny of nominations will be held on June 7 and the last date for withdrawal of candidature is June 9.

The model code of conduct shall come into force with immediate effect in the districts in which the whole or any part of the Parliamentary constituency going for election is included.

The published electoral rolls for the state assembly elections with respect to January 1, 2022 will be used for the Lok Sabha by-poll. The ECI has decided to use EVMs and VVPATs in the bye-poll in all the polling stations.

Adequate numbers of EVMs and VVPATs have been made available and all steps have been taken to ensure that the polls are conducted smoothly with the help of these machines, said the ECI spokesperson.
