PUNE: The Wadgaon Sheri Nagrik Manch has appealed to citizens to stop throwing garbage on the road. Ashish Mane of the manch said that the onus of garbage management is on the civic administration, but now “we also want citizens to play an active part in it”.
According to the group, there are about 15 to 20 spots in Wadgaon Sheri which are prone to open dumping. The group members called for sustained efforts to prevent these locations from turning into garbage dumping spots.
Mane said, “According to the information gathered by us, there is a daily garbage collection system in place in the area. Even the PMC has deployed vans to collect garbage from households. Despite this, instances of dumping are being witnessed. We have appealed to citizens to approach us if daily garbage collection system is not working. We will approach the PMC to initiate corrective measures. Also, if people are not ready to pay minimal charges for garbage collection, we are ready to bear the expenses.”
