PUNE: Pune’s gateway to Southeast Asia and to other countries is expected to get wider with another direct international flight to Bangkok to begin from November 12 onwards.
With its start, the Pune airport will get its second direct international connection which will increase to three with another airline already having announced a flight to Singapore from December 2.
The Bangkok flight will fly four days a week—Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday.
Pune airport sources told TOI that the increase in these direct international connections was welcome and long awaited. “Now people have the chance to take these flights and further connect to many other countries. More importantly, flyers will not have to go to Mumbai or Delhi for them,” an airport official said.
SpiceJet, which will be operating the flight confirmed the same. “Yes, the bookings for the flight is open now,” the airline spokesperson told TOI.
Flight number SG81 will depart Pune at 18:45hours and arrive in Bangkok at 00:49hours. On its return, SG82 will depart Bangkok at 14:15hours and arrive in Pune at 17:10hours.
Sudhir Mehta, the former president of the Marhatta Chamber of Commerce Industries and Agriculture said that these international flights was a big booster for the Pune. “This is one more step in our endeavour to connect Pune globally. Our efforts to bring in more international connections from Pune will continue,” he said.
Presently, Pune is connected internationally to Dubai with a daily direct flight operated by SpiceJet.
