Pune racing season from Friday

PUNE: The Pune Racing Season 2023 will commence from this Friday, July 21. The 19-day season (10 regular and 10 special days) will end on November 5. The season will offer over Rs 11 crores in prize money.

The two major races (Grade 1 races) will happen on Sunday, September 24 (The Indian St. Leger) and October 15 (The Pune Derby).

There will also be two Grade 2 races and eight Grade 3 Races along with multiple sponsored races. Perhaps for the first time in Pune racing history, there will be racing on three consecutive days on August 13, 14 and 15.

There will be no restriction on the participation of outstation horses, except in the lowest class races.

There are 654 horses currently stationed in Pune including 188 two-years-old. A total of 56 outstation horses already arrived and more are expected to arrive soon.

For the upcoming season, 37 trainers and 64 jockeys will be seen in action.

Schedule: July: 21, 28. August: 5, 13, 14, 15, 20, 26. September: 3, 9, 16, 17, 24, 30. October: 8, 14, 15, 22. November: 5.
