Pune: Man held on charge of bid to extort Rs 9 crore from realtor

PUNE: A man (55) was arrested on Friday on the charge of demanding Rs9.25 crore and accepting a Rs2-crore cheque from a property developer (41) after threatening him with a case before the National Green Tribunal for alleged “violation” of various environment norms at an upcoming residential project in Thergaon.

Inspector Santosh Patil of the Wakad police said, “We have arrested Adinath B Kuchnur of Thergaon and have recovered the Rs2-crore worth cheque from him. Kuchnur, who claims to have done PhD in management science, is a criminal on police records with four earlier cases of blackmailing and extortion against him. In one of these cases, he has served a two-year sentence in jail. We are verifying his PhD qualification claims.”
