Pundit says intensity of Leeds United and Brentford rivalry will settle relegation battle

After a long and difficult season, Leeds United's fate will be decided on Sunday. Results in tonight's fixtures for Everton and Burnley will determine the size of Leeds' task when the travel to Brentford but the Whites are currently at a disadvantage.

While they have a point more than 18th placed Burnley, the Clarets only need to match Leeds' total to finish above them - if Leeds lose their final game - due to their superior goal difference and they have two games in which to pick up points, compared to Leeds' one.

TalkSport and the Times pundit, Tony Cascarino has stated that he believes Leeds will be relegated, as they face a difficult fixture against Brentford, whilst he believes Burnley will take at least a point from their games against Aston Villa and Newcastle. He told the Times: "I fear for Leeds. That late point against Brighton will have been great for morale but going to Brentford will not be easy.

"There is no love lost between those two sides from their many clashes in the Championship in recent years and in front of their home crowd Brentford will be keen to end their first season in the Premier League in style."

For those reasons, Cascarino believes that Leeds have picked up their final point of the season, meaning that Burnley only need one point to stay up, while Everton would be safe already.

"I could see Leeds losing that game which means Everton can lose both of their final games and that Burnley need only a point to survive. Mike Jackson has got Burnley united and though they’ve lost games recently do I think they can get a point out of Villa and/or Newcastle? Yes."

If Burnley lose against Villa on Thursday night, Leeds will go to Brentford in control of their own fate. They will only have to match Burnley's result on the final day in order to maintain their Premier League status for another season. Everton can only be caught if they take a maximum of one point in their final two, whilst Leeds defeat Brentford.
