Pundit highlights Southampton weakness Nottingham Forest can exploit

Pundit Chris Sutton has backed Nottingham Forest to pick up a point against Southampton on Wednesday evening.

Forest head into the game off the back of an impressive 1-1 draw against Chelsea, and will be hoping to use the momentum from that result to turn around their fortunes away from the City Ground.

Steve Cooper and his men have found it difficult away from home this season, but now have an opportunity to put that right against Southampton, who have themselves struggled at St Mary's and have lost their league three league games on the trot. Those factors, Sutton believes, can earn Forest a point on the road.

In his weekly prediction column for BBC Sport, Sutton said: "Southampton have lost all three league games under Nathan Jones and have the worst home record in the Premier League - they have taken only six points from a possible 24 at St Mary's Stadium, and haven't won there since August.

"But Nottingham Forest are the top-flight team with the worst record on the road - they have picked up only two points from eight away games, and scored only once.

"Forest were great at home to Chelsea on Sunday and deserved to beat them but, for some reason, they don't seem able to play that way away from the City Ground.

"Both teams are desperate for a win to climb out of the relegation zone, but it's hard to make a case for either of them to come out on top - I'm going for a draw."

Sutton elaborated on Forest's display against Chelsea on BBC phone-in show 606 over the weekend, saying: “Do you know what, I’ve got a lot of time for Steve Cooper.

“I think he’s had a really difficult job.

"People look at the spending and think that Forest have spent a fortune, they should stay up. It’s not that easy."
