A Cabinet minister has described US plans to execute a former army major by firing squad as “disturbing”, after it was revealed it would be livestreamed.

Equalities minister Bridget Phillipson said how it is conducted is a matter for US President Donald Trump’s government, as she set out the UK’s long-standing opposition to the death penalty.
