PROTESTERS temporary halted the men's road race at the UCI Cycling World Championships.
At 11:21, as riders made through the Carron Valley, a currently unknown number of protesters brought the race to a stop.
Riders were seen getting off their bikes, sitting at the side of the road and discussing with race officials about whether the race will be getting back underway.
Police vans were also witnessed making their way to the front of the race.
A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: "We are aware of a protest in the Carron Valley area. Officers are currently in attendance and engaging with protesters."
Climate group This is Rigged claimed responsibility for the demonstration. They want the Scottish Government to oppose all new fossil fuel projects in Scotland - a demand that has yet to be met by ministers.
The 168 mile route sees some of the world's best cyclists travel through much of central Scotland, with the race due to culminate with 10 laps of a Glasgow city centre circuit.
Having begun at 9:30 near the Scottish Parliament in Edinburgh, the protest caused a delay of nearly an hour before cyclists got back underway at around 12:14.
Police said they arrested five protesters at the scene.
