During the trial, Prosecutor Susan Hoffinger questioned Robert Costello about his alleged attempt to use a backchannel to Trump through Michael Cohen. Costello denied the accusation when asked by Hoffinger.
However, Hoffinger presented an email sent by Costello to Cohen that mentioned a backchannel. When questioned about the email, Costello confirmed it was his but stated that there were circumstances surrounding it that he would like to explain.
