Patients struggling with chronic weight and heart issues could soon get some relief in their hip pocket but many more will still fork out thousands of dollars for a popular drug.

Negotiations will soon begin to add the appetite-suppressing drug Wegovy on the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS), the federal government has confirmed.
