Proposals have been put forward by officers at South Lanarkshire Council to introduce parking fees at key visitors attractions in the area.
No decisions have been made on the authority's forthcoming budget for 2023/24 - with councillors still to vote on any final proposals.
But cash-strapped South Lanarkshire need to save £16.3milion to balance the books.
A number of proposed savings have been tabled by officers and were included in a report which went before councillors last week.
This includes a proposal to introduce a £2 charge for parking at key attractions across various Council services including South Lanarkshire Leisure and Culture attractions.
The income would be retained by the Council. Examples include Tinto Hill and Chatelherault Country Park in Hamilton as well as Calderglen Country Park and James Hamilton Heritage Park in East Kilbride.
It comes after a tourism strategy was approved by the Labour-led administration.
This is the first South Lanarkshire area specific tourism strategy which will look at what can be done by the end of 2025 and ways to make the area more attractive to visitors.
But one East Kilbride councillor fears any charges for parking at visitor attractions could hinder this.
East Kilbride West Councillor, David Watson, said: I was happy to support this tourism strategy at the last Community and Enterprise Resources Committee.
"Council officers have now tabled a proposal to introduce a £2 charge for parking at key South Lanarkshire attractions including Calderglen Country Park and James Hamilton Heritage Park.
"I am not sure how this fits in with a strategy to attract more visitors to the area.
"Hopefully this proposal will be rejected when budget decisions are taken by councillors."
