A ‘prolific’ shoplifter has been banned from Hyde town centre after being convicted of theft and assault.
Megan Barnes, 27, of Taylor Street, Hyde, was convicted of two thefts and an assault at Tameside Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday morning (March 1).
Barnes was given a suspended prison sentence and a two-year criminal behaviour order.

The order bans Barnes from all stores in Hyde town centre, including supermarkets.
In a statement, police described Barnes as a ‘prolific’ shoplifter.
A GMP spokesperson said: “Megan Barnes a prolific shoplifter in Hyde has today been presented to court for 2 further thefts and an assault, she has been convicted of all 3 offences and been given a suspended prison sentence.
“However more importantly she has now been banned from all stores in Hyde town centre including the supermarkets via a criminal behaviour order this will last for 2 years.
“Anyone committing thefts in this area we will be seeking a banning order on.
“Thank you to the local community for working with us to make the town a safer place for us all.”
