Police have launched a manhunt after a prisoner escaped from a Scots hospital 'in handcuffs'.
The 22-year-old man fled from the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh while under custody at around 3.30pm on Sunday, October 16.
Locals in the Danderhall area in Midlothian reported seeing a large police presence following the escape.
As reported by Edinburgh Live, a large number of officers were seen on the ground while the Police Scotland chopper was out scouring the area on Sunday.
It's understood the missing prisoner was wearing handcuffs when he escaped.
The prisoner has still not been found and officers say their enquiries are ongoing.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 3.30 pm on Sunday, October 16, a 22-year-old man escaped from the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh whilst under police custody. Enquiries are ongoing to trace him.”
The Scottish Prison Service has been approached by Edinburgh Live for comment.
