- An inmate, Anthony Russell, 43, has been charged with the murder of Soham killer Ian Huntley, 52, inside HMP Frankland prison.
- Huntley was reportedly attacked with a metal bar in a workshop at the maximum-security jail near Durham on 26 February and subsequently died on Saturday morning.
- Russell appeared before Newton Aycliffe Magistrates’ Court via videolink, confirming his name and understanding that he will appear at Newcastle Crown Court on Thursday.
- Huntley was serving a life sentence with a minimum term of 40 years for the 2002 murders of 10-year-olds Holly Wells and Jessica Chapman in Soham, Cambridgeshire.
- Justice minister Sarah Sackman clarified that the state would not be paying £3,000 towards Huntley’s funeral, stating he deserves only the "absolute bare minimum."
