The Princess of Wales has revealed that she will be setting her alarm clock early in order to wake up in time for the England Women’s rugby matches when they compete in the World Cup in New Zealand in autumn.
Kate, who is a patron of England Rugby, and has been since earlier this year, sent a video message to the Red Roses, which was posted on the England Rugby Twitter account.
In the video, she wished the team the best of luck in the tournament, while dressed in a striking red Zara tweed blazer, in order to represent the team.
In the video, Her Royal Highness said that she would be cheering them on every step of the way, and she said she hoped that they would “bring the cup home” once again, following their win in 2014.
The Princess was announced as the new patron of the Rugby Football League, and the Rugby Football Union, roles that were both previously held by her brother-in-law, the Duke of Sussex, in February, reports the Daily Mail.
The royal has always had a keen interest in sports and has played hockey and tennis from a young age, as well as being a firm rugby supporter.
The new tournament, which kicks off on Saturday, will run until Saturday, November 12, and will see the Red Roses playing their first fixture against Fiji at 4.45 am.
Speaking in the video, Kate said: “Hello everyone. I wanted to take a moment to wish the Red Roses all the very best of luck for the rugby world cup in New Zealand.
“I had so much fun with you all at Twickenham earlier this year and I cannot wait to see how you get on during the tournament.
“For many of the team this will be the first world cup you’ve played in - congratulations on being selected for the squad. I know this will be a particularly proud moment in your career so far and I hope you enjoy every minute.
“I was also delighted to hear that some of the winning squad from 2014 are back to help bring the cup home again. Good luck for the weeks ahead. I’ll be setting my alarm clock early to cheer you on all the way.”
In a caption posted with the video, it said: “A special good luck message for the #RedRoses from our patron The Princess of Wales.”
The video also tagged the Princess’ official social media account in the tweet, calling the England Women a #TeamDream.
