But their 1981 marriage proved to be anything but a fairytale and resulted in them separating in 1992. The couple did not file for a divorce at first and it was in late August 1996 - four years later that their marriage was officially ended. But it has been reported that at first Diana wasn't interested in a divorce and was left furious after being sent a letter from the Queen that effectively ended the union. Labelled with the crest of the House of Windsor, the handwritten letter arrived just weeks after Diana gave her bombshell Panorama interview in late 1995.
