Prince William and Kate Middleton 'don't want' to move into Royal Lodge as Prince Andrew refuses to leave

The Prince and Princess of Wales reportedly don't want to move into Prince Andrew's home Royal Lodge as the disgraced royal refuses to leave.

It's been reported that Prince William and Kate Middleton have been eyeing up Royal Lodge ever since it was announced that Andrew would be departing the property. But despite a push from King Charles, it's claimed that Andrew is not even leaving the property during the current repair work in case he doesn't get back in.

However, despite reports that William and Kate are eyeing up the larger property for their family it's been claimed the pair want to stay put. A source close to the couple told Page Six that they are “extremely happy” at Adelaide Cottage with their three children, Prince George, 9, Princess Charlotte, 8, and 5-year-old Prince Louis.

Royal insiders claim the move could be a costly one as the Prince and Princess only relocated from Kensington Palace in London to Adelaide Cottage in Windsor last September. While Charles is keen for the family to move into Royal Lodge after telling his younger brother to move out and consider relocating to Frogmore Cottage.

Frogmore Cottage is the former home of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle as the King suggested Andrew could permanently “downsize" to make room for William and Kate. However, the future King and Queen want to stay put in their four-bedroom home.

Royal biographer Andrew Lownie, author of the 2021 work Traitor King, said the debacle over the Duke of York’s home is adding to the tension between the brothers that has existed for some time.

The 63-year-old disgraced Prince is reportedly refusing to vacate the 30-room house which has been his home for more than 20 years.

The royal biographer told Express.co.uk: “Andrew has a lease with the Crown Estates in return for paying for renovation and upkeep and he has honoured that. The optics might not look good for a non-working Royal but he is within his rights.

“Status matters to him — as he reminds everyone constantly he was the second son of the monarch — and he feels he is entitled to stay.

"This is also part of a wider fight with his brother which goes back to having security removed from his daughters, not gracing the balcony...”
