Prince Harry says he still believes in the monarchy but admits he may not attend his father’s coronation in the latest clip issued in advance of his ITV interview.
Speaking to journalist Tom Bradby, the Duke of Sussex is asked whether he will attend if he is invited and tells him: “There’s a lot that can happen between now and then.”
He goes on to say: “But the door is always open.
“The ball is in their court. There’s a lot to be discussed and I really hope that they’re willing to sit down and talk about it.”
Asked if he still believes in the monarchy, Harry says “yes” but admits he does not know if he will play any part in it in the future.
The comments are made in a new trailer, released on Thursday, for ITV’s Harry: The Interview which is being screened at 9pm on Sunday ahead of Tuesday’s publication of his memoir, Spare.
King Charles III’s coronation will take place on Saturday May 6 at Westminster Abbey.
During the ceremony, the King will be crowned alongside Camilla, the Queen Consort.
Harry and Meghan will be invited to the ceremony despite the rift with the rest of the royal family, according to reports.
The coronation will be on the same day as the couple’s son Archie’s fourth birthday.
Bradby, a friend of Harry and his wife Meghan, asks him about his decision to publish the book which reveals details of private conversations with other members of the royal family while also criticising press intrusion. The prince tells the journalist: “I don’t know how staying silent is ever going to make things better.”
Bradby then asks: “Wouldn’t your brother say to you, ‘Harry, how could you do this to me after everything? After everything we went through?’ Wouldn’t that be what he would say?”
Harry responds: “He would probably say all sorts of different things.”
Bradby goes on: “Some people will say you’ve railed against invasions of your privacy all your life and the accusation will be here are you invading the privacy of your nearest and dearest without permission? Now that will be the accusation.”
To which the duke says: “That would be the accusation from people that don’t understand or don’t want to believe that my family have been briefing the press.”
