Primark makes major change as it finally trials click and collect service

Fashion giant Primark has finally answered shoppers thoughts and prayers as they are finally set to trial a click and collect service on thousands of items.

The fashion retailer has confirmed it will begin trialling the service on their kids clothing and accessories in 25 of their stores in the North West of England by the end of the year. It is currently unclear whether the trial will extend to Scotland and other parts of the UK.

The click and collect service will offer 2,000 options across clothing, accessories and lifestyle products. Around 40% of these options are exclusive to click and collect customers.

The fashion chain recently launched their new website (Primark.com)

Primark's dedicated fans have been calling for them to begin selling online, especially after the business seen a major loss in profits during the first Covid lockdown.

The Retail Gazette reports that Primark is trialling the service on their kids department as it has the potential to “satisfy unfulfilled demand” and would help to drive new and existing customers back into their stores.

It has not been confirmed which stores will be offering the trial, but Primark have said that will allow customers who live near a smaller store access a wider range of stock.

Those included in the trial will have designated collection areas in the heart of the shop. Click-and-collect will be free for customers and returns will also be accepted free of change in stores.

ABF Foods have said: "Our average size stores are only able to stock a limited range and for these customers the number of options available to them will broadly double, increasing even more for customers of our small stores.

"This trial will enable us to provide more fashion, licence and lifestyle products to more customers and more often.”

It comes just after the high-street chain recently updated their website that finally allowed shoppers to check their local stores stock levels from home.

Since the new website launched, Primark's owners Associated British Foods (ABF Foods) have said that they have seen a 60% increase in online traffic.

Despite the welcome news, Primark's owners have said that their click and collect service is not part of wider plans to begin selling their stock online.

George Weston, Chief Executive of ABF Foods told The BBC: "What you will never see is the entire Primark range available for click and collect, nor any of it available for home delivery.

"We are using online selling for click and collecting very selectively," he added. "When they come into their local Primark store if they've purchase online, then we hope they will buy something else while they are in store as well."
