Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s son Maddox has dropped “Pitt” from his surname in the credits for his mother’s new film Couture.
The 24 year-old assistant director, who was previously known as Maddox Jolie-Pitt, is credited simply as Maddox Jolie for the drama about a film director who is diagnosed with breast cancer shortly before shooting a video at a Paris fashion show.
As recently as 2024, when Maddox worked as a production assistant on Netflix’s Maria Callas biopic Maria, he was credited as Maddox Jolie-Pitt.
The Independent has approached representatives for Angelina Jolie for comment.
Maddox is the oldest of the former couple’s six children, along with Pax, 22, Zahara, 21, Shiloh, 19, and 17-year-old twins Knox and Vivienne. Several have chosen to drop the “Pitt” from their surname following their parent’s lengthy divorce.
In July 2024, Shiloh announced that she has filed to drop her father’s last name in the Los Angeles Times.
According to California law, one must have name-change legal forms published in a newspaper ad for one month, and once published, the request will show up in the legal notice section of the paper. Only then can a judge approve a petition to change one’s name.
At the time, sources reportedly close to Pitt have claimed that the Oscar winner was “aware and upset” at the name-change filing.
“He’s aware and upset that Shiloh dropped his last name,” the source told the People. “The reminders that he’s lost his children, is of course not easy for Brad. He loves his children and misses them. It’s very sad.”
Vivienne was also identified as “Vivienne Jolie” in the 2023 Playbill for musical The Outsiders, which she helped produce with her mother. And in a video shared by Essence in November 2023, eldest daughter Zahara introduced herself as “Zahara Marley Jolie” while joining the Mu Pi chapter of the Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority at her university, Spelman College.
“She was seen dancing alongside her fellow sorority sisters before introducing herself, “My name is Zahara Marley Jolie. And [I] landed all the way from the Golden State in the city full of angels: Los Angeles, California.”
Back in 2016, Pitt was cleared by the FBI after allegedly being involved in an altercation with Maddox on a private plane. The alleged incident happened just days before Jolie filed for divorce in September of that year.
An FBI spokeswoman told the Press Association: “In response to allegations made following a flight within the special aircraft jurisdiction of the United States which landed in Los Angeles carrying Mr Brad Pitt and his children, the FBI has conducted a review of the circumstances and will not pursue further investigation.
”No charges have been filed in this matter.”
