Presidents Day 2026: What will be closed — banks, government offices and more

Some Americans had an extra day off to look forward to this weekend as Presidents Day, a federal holiday in the United States, fell on the third Monday of February.

Presidents Day in 2026 was on Monday, February 16. The holiday, originally created to celebrate George Washington's birthday, was now seen as a day to honour every person who held the United States’ high office, giving govt and some non-govt workers a day off in winter, US Today reported.
