Praise for Northumbrian Water workers after they rescue distressed foal from County Durham culvert

Northumbrian Water workers have been praised for their rescue skills after saving a trapped foal stuck in a culvert in County Durham.

Technical support advisers Daniel Clemenson and Adam Tindle, as well as operations support assistant Anth Carver, who all work with Northumbrian Water's sewage team, were installing cameras in Crook's drainage systems when they heard nearby cries from a distressed horse.

Kyran Allen from Water Intelligence International was also working on the project, and after putting his duties to a halt, he came across the horse who was communicating with its baby, which was trapped in an underground culvert.

Determined to help out, the four entered the water system in a bid to coax out the trapped foal with members either side trying to coerce it in the right direction.

Kyran also rang his boss Vincent Clench about the situation as it was unfolding, who carefully talked the team through the process while reaching out to the RSPCA and providing essential co-ordinates.

And after a successful rescue mission, the foal and its mother were reunited, and both ran off together.

Northumbrian Water took to social media to praise their staff for their selfless endeavours, and members of the local community also expressed their pride with heartfelt messages.

Jean Harvey, wrote: "Love a happy ending, well done guys," while Janet Alston, added: "Brilliant, thank you. Hope the little one is ok."

Valerie Hutchinson, also commented: "Amazing, well done."
